Cable installation:

Select from Bigpond Cable and Optusnet Cable services.

Bigpond Cable setup:

Bigpond Cable currently have two types of authentication methods running, and the one you’re using will determine how you set up your router. If you have the Bigpond Cable Login software running on your PC, then follow the steps below. If your PC (or any other on your network) does not require the Bigpond Cable Login software when online, then you may follow the steps for Optusnet Cable as the steps are the same.

Step 1.          Using the PC that is connected to the modem, right-click on the Bigpond Cable Login icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen and click ‘Disconnect’. Now right-click it again and select ‘Options’. Uncheck the settings for ‘Auto Connect’, ‘Automatically start when user logs on’ and ‘Automatically Reconnect’. Click ‘OK’, and repeat these steps on any other PC on your network running the software.

Step 2.          Unplug the power to the Motorola modem, and disconnect the USB from the modem if it is in use (the USB port can not be used when it is connected to a router). Connect a network cable (also know as an ‘Ethernet cable’) between the modem and the WAN port on the router.

Step 3.          Now connect any PCs you intend to network with an Ethernet cable into the LAN ports (port number 1, 2, 3 & 4) on the router.

Step 4.          Open a web browser and enter the following into the address field: 192.168.1.1  (or click here).

Step 5.          A login window will appear. Enter ‘admin’ for both the User Name and Password (in lower case), then click OK.
Note: If the login screen does not appear, it may mean that your web-browser has been set to use a proxy. Go to the Internet Explorer Tools menu>Internet Options>Connections>LAN Settings button, then uncheck the Using Proxy checkbox, and click OK to finish.

Step 6.          Once you see the TP-Link configuration menu, click on the ‘Network’ menu, and then the ‘WAN’ sub-menu from the left hand side.

Step 7.          Select the ‘Bigpond Cable’ option from the drop-down menu.
Enter in your Bigpond Username (just the username, not the @bigpond.net.au part)
Enter your Bigpond Password (case sensitive).
Enter in the Auth Server as ‘sm-server’
Enter the Auth Domain address based on your location. Choose from one of the following:

·              NSW / ACT:     nsw.bigpond.net.au

·              VIC / TAS:        vic.bigpond.net.au

·              WA :                  wa.bigpond.net.au

·              SA / NT:            sa.bigpond.net.au

·              QLD:                 qld.bigpond.net.au

Now select ‘Connect Automatically’ from the next field.
Double check all of the settings you have entered, and then click on ‘Save’.

Step 8.          Now plug in the power to the modem now and wait about 30 seconds for it to connect. Then test your connection by trying to access a website; it should find the site within a few seconds.

Step 9.          Congratulations, you have now set up your router and should be able to use your broadband service over the network. For help with configuring the wireless settings (if applicable), see the Wireless Settings section.

If you have no internet access at this point, check all the settings have been made as above, and leave the power unplugged for your modem, router and PCs for 15 minutes. Then power them on and try again.
